Liverpool and Newcastle could agree on a "£75 million" Player Deal

Liverpool are actively pursuing Newcastle’s England international Anthony Gordon, with reports today suggesting a £75 million offer is on the table – and could even escalate to £80 million to push the deal through.

Why the move stalled (for now)
Earlier this summer, Liverpool and Newcastle were preparing a complex swap: Gordon for Joe Gómez (£45m) plus cash, valued at around £75 million total. Medicals were reportedly booked before Newcastle backed out at the last minute.

Newcastle instead sold Elliot Anderson (£35m) and Yankuba Minteh (£33m) to comply with PSR rules, removing the financial need to release Gordon.

What insiders are saying
Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke confirms Liverpool are “keeping tabs” and that £75–80 million would be needed to sway Newcastle, while Gordon remains a key target in case Luis Díaz leaves.

Anfield Central adds the deal is “in advanced stage” again – though Newcastle’s Champions League qualification and strengthened finances reduce their pressure to sell.

Possible outcomes
Liverpool stay patient – If Díaz departs, expect renewed momentum and perhaps an increased offer in January or next summer.

Newcastle hold firm – Motivated by Champions League revenue and PSR stability, they could resist selling or offer a contract extension to Gordon.

Gordon pushes for the move – Reports suggest he might even refuse to play to force a transfer.

Verdict
Liverpool are serious about a big-money summer move for Gordon, primarily in reaction to Díaz-linked departure rumors. While negotiations were very close, Newcastle’s financial flexibility means there’s no imminent sale—yet. Keep an eye on developments later this window or in January.
