Skoda returns to its origins with the fantastic cycling concept.

Škoda has unveiled a fascinating student-built concept vehicle called the L&K 130, which repurposes the plug-in hybrid Superb Combi into a bike‑support pickup—honoring the brand’s roots in bicycle manufacturing. Originally presented at a velodrome in Prague, it’ll officially debut at the 112th Tour de France, held from July 5 to 27

Tribute to Škoda’s heritage
Škoda began in 1895 (or 1896) as Laurin & Klement—a bicycle-maker before shifting to motorcycles and then cars

The L&K 130 name celebrates 130 years of origin and stands for Laurin & Klement

Concept build at a glance
Developed by 28 students from the Škoda Academy (the company’s vocational school), it took over 2,000 hours to complete

This is the first Superb Estate–based student car and the tenth such “Azubi” project since 2014

Design & functional features
The rear roof was cut off and B/C pillars reshaped to create a cargo bed: electrically extendable at the push of a button for easy bike access

It carries two bikes in a custom tilting rack in the bed plus a third on the roof

The right‑rear passenger door now slides backward—using a dual-hinge mechanism with two handles—to avoid hitting cyclists during pit stops

Inside, two rear displays support data coordination, there’s a large cool box replacing one seat, and roof-net storage for items like energy bars

Exterior styling uses Škoda’s original Laurin & Klement colours—red, gold, black, white—with L&K logos and a backlit grille

Wheels: sporty 19″ Supernova alloys, sporty trim inside with “130 years” embroidery and recycled materials throughout

Powertrain & performance
Based on the Superb Combi iV plug‑in hybrid, it pairs a 1.5 L turbo petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering around 201–204 bhp and an EV range exceeding 100 km in standard form

Added weight and aerodynamic changes may reduce electric range in practice.

Marks Škoda’s first student vehicle based on a plug‑in hybrid platform, blending sustainability with function for the first time in the Azubi car series

Reinforces Škoda’s long-standing partnership (20+ years) with major cycling events such as the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia

The Skoda L&K 130 is more than a concept—it’s a rolling homage to the brand’s origins in cycling, reimagining the elegant Superb Combi into a purpose-built support vehicle optimized for pro-race logistics. It’s clever engineering, functional artistry, and brand storytelling all in one. Expect to see it in action at this year’s Tour de France, both as a showcase and as a functional support car.
