TRANSFER: Leon Balogun announces Rangers exit

Leon Balogun is set to leave Rangers FC at the end of the 2024–25 season, as his contract expires on May 31, 2025. Despite his expressed desire to continue with the club, Rangers have decided not to offer the 36-year-old defender a new deal.
Balogun rejoined Rangers in July 2023 for a second stint and made 26 appearances across all competitions this season, contributing a goal and an assist. However, injuries, including a recent cheekbone fracture sustained during a Europa League quarter-final match against Athletic Bilbao, have limited his availability. He was also forced off early due to injury in a recent match against Hibernian, which may have been his final appearance for the club.
Balogun has openly expressed his affection for Rangers, stating, “Everyone knows how much I love this club. I embrace everything it stands for. It’s really close to my heart, so if I can stay another season, I’d be more than happy.” Nonetheless, the club appears focused on rejuvenating its squad with younger players ahead of the 2025–26 campaign.
During his time with Rangers, Balogun won multiple trophies, including the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup. His leadership and experience have been valuable assets to the team, but the club’s strategic direction necessitates difficult decisions regarding veteran players.
