Orlando Pirates transfers: set for 3 new signings

Orlando Pirates have been active in the transfer market for the 2024/25 season, bringing in several new players to strengthen their squad. Among these, three signings stand out for their potential impact:

1. Thalente Mbatha – Midfielder (SuperSport United)
Initially joining Pirates on a six-month loan in January 2024, Mbatha quickly proved his worth by delivering standout performances, including being named Man of the Match in the 2023–24 Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns, which Pirates won 2–1. His impressive displays earned him a permanent move to the club for the 2024/25 season. Mbatha’s dynamic midfield presence and ability to perform in crucial matches make him a valuable addition to the team.

2. Gilberto (Delvi Miguel Vieira) – Winger (Petro de Luanda)
Gilberto, a 23-year-old Angolan international, brings flair and experience to the Pirates’ attack. Having won a treble with Petro de Luanda and participated in the CAF Champions League and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, his international exposure adds depth to the squad. Although he has yet to make his Premier Soccer League debut, his pedigree suggests he could become a key player for Pirates.

3. Deano Van Rooyen – Right-Back (Stellenbosch FC)
Van Rooyen, the former captain of Stellenbosch FC, was a strategic acquisition to bolster the Pirates’ defense. Known for his reliability and defensive prowess, he led the league in tackles last season with 57. His addition not only strengthens the right-back position but also brings leadership qualities to the team.

These signings reflect Orlando Pirates’ ambition to challenge for the league title and make a significant impact in domestic and continental competitions.
