BREAKING NEWS : After losing to Norway in the World Cup, Italy fired coach Spalletti.

Luciano Spalletti has been dismissed as head coach of Italy’s national football team following a disappointing 3–0 loss to Norway in the World Cup qualifiers. The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed that Spalletti will step down after Italy’s upcoming match against Moldova, marking a swift response to the team’s poor performance in the qualifiers .
Spalletti, who took over the national team in September 2023 after Roberto Mancini’s departure, faced mounting pressure following Italy’s early exit from Euro 2024 and a series of underwhelming results in the Nations League. Despite expressing confidence in the team’s potential, the recent heavy defeats, including the loss to Norway, led to his dismissal .
FIGC President Gabriele Gravina emphasized the “unacceptable” nature of the defeat and confirmed that Spalletti would remain in charge for the Moldova match before officially parting ways with the team . Reports suggest that Stefano Pioli or Claudio Ranieri may be considered as potential successors to Spalletti .
Italy’s national team now faces the challenge of regrouping and finding a new direction as they aim to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
