BREAKING NEWS : NZ Rugby announces beginning of Fantasy Rugby Championship

New Zealand Rugby (NZR) has announced the launch of the Fantasy Rugby Championship, an official fantasy game for The Rugby Championship (TRC), the Southern Hemisphere’s premier international rugby competition. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Rugby Australia, SA Rugby, Unión Argentina de Rugby, and SANZAAR, aims to deepen fan engagement by allowing participants to draft their ultimate XV from top players across New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Argentina.

Pre-registration: Opened globally on June 10, 2025.

Official Launch: Scheduled for August 2025, ahead of the TRC season.

Platform: The game will be accessible via playfantasyrugby.com.

Gameplay: Participants will have a budget to select a team of 15 players, earning fantasy points based on real-life performances such as tackles, tries, and assists.

Boosters: Strategic features like triple captain and unlimited budget for one week will be available.

Leagues: Players can join private leagues with friends or compete in global public leagues.

NZR’s General Manager of Brand and Marketing, Kerry McKenzie, highlighted the success of Fantasy Super Rugby Pacific and expressed excitement about extending this format to TRC, aiming to connect with fans across the four participating nations.
