Rashee Rice, the star of the Kansas City Chiefs, was sentenced to 30 days in prison for a hit-and-run accident.

Sentencing: On July 17, 2025, a Dallas County judge accepted Rice’s plea to two third-degree felony charges—collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury—related to a chain-reaction crash on March 30, 2024

Penalty: Rice received 30 days in jail, which he may serve at any time during his five-year deferred adjudication probation, plus 60 hours of community service, and must pay over $115,000 in medical restitution to the crash victims

Details of the Crash
Occurred on North Central Expressway, Dallas, on March 30, 2024.

Rice (Lamborghini Urus) and SMU’s Teddy Knox (Corvette) were allegedly racing at speeds upwards of 115–119 mph in a 70 mph zone

The crash damaged five other vehicles and injured at least four people. Both drivers left the scene on foot

Deferred adjudication means after probation, the case could be dismissed and not show a conviction on Rice’s record

The NFL is reviewing the case under its personal-conduct policy. A multi-game suspension is expected for the 2025 season

Rice’s Response
Rice issued a statement through his attorney, expressing deep remorse:

“Last March, I was involved in a high‑speed accident… I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart… I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property.”

He also emphasized he’ll continue working to “make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole.”

Jail timing: Rice will coordinate with the Dallas County jail to serve his sentence when it best fits around his schedule, including offseason and training camp

NFL discipline: The league is expected to act swiftly—possibly issuing a suspension before or early in the 2025 season

Probation compliance: Over the next five years, adherence to probation terms and completing jail/community obligations could result in dismissal of the case.

Impact on the Chiefs
With Rice potentially serving jail time and facing suspension, the Chiefs may rely more on receivers like Xavier Worthy early in the season

Kansas City and the NFL are both monitoring developments closely. The Chiefs have acknowledged the matter but refrained from commenting pending legal proceedings
Rashee Rice’s legal issues are officially resolved under his plea deal: 30 days in jail (served flexibly), five years probation, and financial restitution. A NFL suspension now seems likely. His compliance with court-ordered conditions and the league’s ruling will shape his status leading into the 2025 season.
